A successfull first annual Barrio Fiesta 2010

The Filipino Community Alliance was established on November 29, 2008 by an enthusiastic group of forward-thinking and committed Filipino community, military, and business leaders to bring together as an alliance the various Filipino groups in Pierce County so that they can be stronger and more effective in promoting and advocating for the welfare and contributions of Filipino Americans, in soliciting  funds for urgently needed community programs and projects, in holding a yearly Pista Pilipino in the South Sound celebrating the Filipino culture and contributions to society, and in acquiring a modern Filipino Cultural Heritage Center in Pierce County.

The Filipino Community Alliance (FCA) was organized to lead, educate and advocate for the Filipino American community. Its mission is to provide networking opportunities, cultural programs and access to resources that benefit Filipino Americans and other communities.

“Relief to Rebuild” Auction Fundraiser for Survivors of Typhoon Haiyan

 

Tacoma, WA – on June 21, 2014 – The Filipino Community Alliance (FCA) in partnership with the Museum of Glass (MOG) is hosting “Relief to Rebuild”, a fundraiser to help the people in the Philippines who are trying to rebuild their lives after being devastated by Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda). This fundraiser will be held at the Museum of Glass at 7:00pm on Saturday, June 21, 2014.  The proceeds will go directly to World Vision who will give the funds to the hardest hit villages of the Philippines for the rebuilding of schools and creating safe play areas for children.

Tickets are $40 and includes admission to the beautiful galleries of glass art at the MOG. There will be delicious hors d’oeuvres and a no-host bar for guests to enjoy as they bid on a variety of packages and baskets.  Auction items include glass art from local Filipino artists and Gabe Feenan, Gaffer of the MOG, a hotel package for Hotel Murano, a gourmet cake from Celebrity Cakes, Tea Experience Classes and Taste of Asia classes from the Asia Pacific Cultural Center, spa packages, auto detailing packages, home improvement packages, Air Plane Sightseeing Tour of the Puget Sound, gift certificates, and much more.

 

Locally known as Typhoon Yolanda, Typhoon Haiyan was one of the largest typhoons in recorded history, making landfall November 8, 2013, killing more than 6,000 people and leaving millions homeless. Lee Noble, the Co-Procurement Coordinator, talks about why FCA is hosting this event. “The Philippines is now in recovery mode. Even though the typhoon is over, it will take years to fully recover and that’s why this fundraiser is so important. It’s helping our global neighbors in the Philippines.” 

 

The Filipino Community Alliance is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that supports Filipinos in our community and promotes the vibrant Philippine heritage.  FCA has already hosted two successful dinner fundraisers for immediate typhoon relief efforts, raising $8,000, and will continue to fundraise for rebuilding efforts throughout the year. All proceeds will go to World Vision who has been instrumental in the recovery and rebuilding efforts after the typhoon, including helping rebuild homes, and repairing schools and health clinics. Over $20,000 dollars was raised during the auction. A check of $20,000 was donated to World Vision to continue the effort.

For membership, the Museum of Glass can offer a special promotion on October 11th for our Family membership level. The Museum of Glass can reduce the price from $85.00 to $75.00 for an annual membership if it is purchased on October 11th. Family membership includes admission for one year for two adults and children plus you also receive guest passes. If people decide later in the day to purchase a membership and they have already paid admission for the day the admission fees will be counted towards the membership cost – so they can either purchase a membership when they arrive, or experience the museum and how great it is and then decide to buy a membership at the same cost.
